Good Morning!
☕ Have you ever noticed that rich people seem to have access to things the rest of us don't?
Private jets. Exclusive clubs. Restaurants where the menu doesn't have prices.
I went to one of those restaurants once. Ordered a steak. I'm still making payments. 😂
Well, Washington just acknowledged something Devon has been teaching me.
Wealthy investors have access to an investment world most Americans rarely see.
In August 2025, President Trump signed an executive order called “Democratizing Access to Alternative Assets for 401(k) Investors.”
Translation?
The government wants to make it easier for retirement plans to offer investments like private equity, real estate, private credit, and infrastructure.
I thought this was huge news.
Then I talked to Devon.
Devon has spent her career in private investing. She's raised over $9 billion in private capital, and she's been patiently explaining a world I barely knew existed.
I'm beginning to suspect she keeps a box of crayons nearby just for our conversations. 😂
Her first lesson surprised me.
"Trevor, you don't necessarily have to wait for Washington."
She explained that eligible investors can already access certain private investments through self-directed IRAs.
There are restrictions, risks, and tax considerations, of course.
But the door isn't necessarily locked.
I just didn't know where to find it.
Then came her second lesson.
Stop asking, "What should I invest in?"
Start asking, "What do I want my money to do?"
Monthly cash flow?
Long-term growth?
Potential tax advantages?
Access to your money when you need it?
Different investments serve different purposes.
And just because someone offers you an investment doesn't mean it's right for you.
Devon says the real work starts with understanding who's managing the money, how returns are generated, what fees you'll pay, and what happens when things go wrong.
That's a different way of thinking.
Washington's executive order could eventually give retirement savers more choices, but it hasn't automatically changed anyone's 401(k).
And more choices won't magically make us better investors.
Education is what turns access into an opportunity worth evaluating.

P.S. Devon created The Capital Club, where members examine a new private investment opportunity every Tuesday. Investing is no longer for the rich. Now its also for those becoming rich.
If you'd like to see the kinds of deals she's teaching me to evaluate, take a look at The Capital Club.
Just be prepared: she may start talking about a capital stack, and I still think that sounds like something you order at IHOP. 🥞😂
☕ Last Sip: Devon says average people can finally start investing like the rich. Fantastic. I've always wanted to have something in common with billionaires. Besides being completely out of touch with how much groceries cost. 😂
