What to Watch in Commodities as China Heads for Pivotal Week (5 minute read)Commodities are entering a crucial period as earnings season gathers pace, Europe firms up its energy-crisis response, and Chinaās political elite gathers in Beijing for a twice-a-decade summit. Markets had a downbeat start to the week after President Xi Jinpingās opening address to the summit offered little relief from policies that are hammering demand. A fresh batch of Chinese economic numbers - including third-quarter growth, are due Tuesday for more insight on a feeble recovery.
Thereās good news hiddenā in the current market turmoil (2 minute read)Stocks ended another volatile week lower with the S&P 500 declining 1.6%. From its January 3 closing high of 4,796.56, the S&P is now down 25.2%. It is incredibly difficult to predict where the stock market is headed in the short run. And just because recent performance has been poor doesnāt necessarily mean weāre due for a quick, outsized rally. It doesnāt necessarily mean that prices should tank further either.
What a Stock Market Bottom Looks Like (3 minute read)March 9, 2009 just happened to be the bottom of one of the worst market crashes in stock market history. The S&P 500 fell nearly 60% over an 18-month period. It certainly wasnāt obvious at the time that day was THE bottom. Unfortunately, it never is.

How To Have A Risk-Appropriate Asset Allocation When Investing (12 minute read)Since 2009, one of the things I have focused on is trying to help readers have a risk-appropriate asset allocation. A risk-appropriate investor invests according to their true risk tolerance. When you invest according to your true risk tolerance, you usually become a calmer, wealthier person.
The Investor Opportunity Index hits a two-year high (3 minute read)Every bear market has these two things in common: They end & Expected returns go up. The first thing is self-explanatory. The second thing should be obvious but from my talks with thousands of investors over the years, I have found that it is most certainly not intuitive to most people.
S&P 500 is Down 30%: You See Risk I See Opportunity!2022 has been a bad year price-wise for the stock market as measured by the S&P 500. However, I contend that is not enough to simply know that the market is down, it is even more important to know why.

Money
You don't have big goals right now, that's okay! (7 minute read)Anytime things start getting tough in markets, as they have been over the past few weeks, I think back upon The Commodore and his sonās untimely death. Not because this story reminds me of stocks or investing, but because it doesnāt remind me of those things. It doesnāt remind me of my portfolio or my company or my career. In fact, it does the opposite. It reminds me how precious our time is. It reminds me that thereās so much more to life than money.
